System structure
The proposed structure is presented in the block diagram of Figure 1. It is configured as a distributed signal processing system where some processing operations (and therefore some of the system intelligence) are performed in a lower hierarchical level and only validated information is transferred to the higher level.

Figure 1. The proposed system structure.

This leads to the reduction of the data traffic and the required computational power on the highest level. Also, the processing parameters on each level are controlled by a higher one that progressively leads to overall system operation control by the highest level. In general, the distribution of operations through the system's levels can be the following:
  • Lower level: reception, conditioning and conversion of the sensor's signal (switching (multiplexing), filtering, amplification, A to D Conversion est.).
  • Middle lever: control the lower level units, collect and process information and communicate with the upper layer.Upper lever: control the lower level units and perform the abstract intelligent processing functions.
