System Units
The block diagram of Figure 2 shows a possible ISIS build around a central Data Bus. She system supervising unit is implementing the upper level. The measuring module corresponds to one information-processing unit with the sensor interface circuitry attached to its sensor bus.

The User Terminals and the Portable Tester are additional units that may be used to offer user access to the system throughout the measuring field. User Terminals communicate with the Central Computer to receive measurements or functional parameters of the system. Portable Tester is a portable unit, which communicate with the Measuring Modules to send commands and receive the responding data. This unit is useful during service since it can be connected near the Measuring Module under test. While the connection of these additional devises on the Data Bus minimises and simplifies the wiring of the system, it increases the complexity of the communication protocol of the bus.
